Cheesesteak History

The Philly Steak Sandwich was invented in Philadelphia in the early 1930′s. Chopped steak was sold on hot dog rolls throughout South Philadelphia’s Italian Market. The sandwich was originally prepared without cheese, which was actually added years later.

Most people may know how the cheesesteak started, in the early 1930’s by two brothers, Pat and Harry Olivieri, with a hot dog cart. But one day, they did something different. They served sliced beef with grilled onions on a roll to a local cab driver and the rest is history. Since then, there have been many variations of that steak sandwich.

We pay homage by serving ours the old fashioned way: hand-trimmed beef, shipped from philly and melted white American cheese served with (or without) grilled onions on a freshly- baked roll.
